One of many things I hate about the "yes on prop 8" campaign

Maybe this seems like a totally obvious point to make about a campaign to define marriage as an institution between one man and one woman, but I completely hate that the Yes on Prop 8 crowd so fetishizes hetero relationships.

Seriously, if I see one more yes on 8 sticker with a picture of a man and woman stick figure holding hands or a picture of a young white, hetero couple on their wedding day on a yes on 8 facebook group...

Let me say it quite clearly: There is nothing inherently magical or beautiful about a man and a woman getting hitched. Some relationships are good and productive, and some relationships are destructive and abusive. Many include lots and lots of exploitation. (note that I'm not saying homosexual relationships aren't as likely to be bad news, but let's face it, some belief in the majesty of homo relationships is not really the thrust of the argument for equal marriage rights).

Am I coming across as bitter? I am a little bitter. I've seen and lived a lot of shitty relationships. But the worst part of all this hetero fetishizing is that it's so irrelevant, in addition to being inaccurate. A more appropriate logo for pro-8 would consist of a disgusting homosexual couple, since the proposition has no effect on happy hetero couples but seeks to define homosexual couples as less valuable than their straight counterparts.

This does seem like an obvious point, but really, those bumper stickers around Mormonland have really pissed me off, and I think it's because it reflects on how inherently bigoted being pro-8 is, even as much as they might want to pretend it has something to do with thinking hetero marriages are super cool.

Which is what the actual logo implies, more or less.
